ABOUT
Designer-duo James Trundle & Isobel Napier
We are a London based partnership combining the sensibilities of carpentry and textile artistry.
Process and materials are central to our practice. It’s often in the journey that many moments of beauty can be found before the resolution of a piece.
We first met while studying at the Slade School of Fine Art, where we began to refine our material practices. In our work - both individually and together - we blend traditional craftsmanship with digital techniques. Our aim is to balance the meticulous control of digital processes with the organic characteristics of natural materials rooted in tradition.
At the heart of our craft is a profound respect for the timber we use. We take a great deal of time to build relationships with local timber yards and hand-select characterful boards that showcase the inherent beauty of the material. Often, we let the timber’s distinctive qualities guide our designs, allowing the character of each board to shape the final form.
We make furniture in small batches in our South London Workshop, and unique timber wall panels using our offcuts. With a commitment to responsible design, we focus on sustainability and craftsmanship that ensures longevity.
